Tuna Melt
A classic diner-style tuna melt: creamy tuna salad piled onto sturdy bread with melted sharp cheddar, broiled until golden and bubbling. Ready in under 20 minutes with pantry staples.

Ingredients
- 2 (5 oz) cans tuna in water, drained
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp finely diced celery
- 2 tbsp finely diced red onion
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- to taste Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 8 slices sourdough or Texas toast bread
- 2 tbsp softened butter, for the bread
- 8 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 large tomato, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, pickle relish, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper and mix well.
- Preheat the broiler and set a rack about 6 inches from the heat.
- Lightly butter one side of each bread slice and arrange butter-side down on a baking sheet.
- Toast the bread under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Flip the slices, then top each with a layer of the tuna salad and a tomato slice if using.
- Top each with a slice of cheddar cheese.
- Broil for 2-3 minutes, watching closely, until the cheese is melted and bubbling with light golden spots.
- Serve immediately while the cheese is hot and melty.
