Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, browned and cooled slightly
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans, optional
- to taste Flaky sea salt, for finishing
Instructions
- Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden and nutty-smelling; cool for 10 minutes.
- Whisk browned butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until combined.
- Whisk in eggs and vanilla until smooth and slightly glossy.
- Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined; do not overmix.
- Fold in chocolate chips and pecans if using.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours for deeper flavor).
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Scoop dough into 2-tbsp balls onto parchment-lined baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.
- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and bake 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden but centers still look slightly underdone. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring.
