- 6 cups peeled, sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (about 6 medium)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl until evenly coated.
- Spread the apple mixture in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine oats, 3/4 cup flour, brown sugar, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into the oat mixture with a pastry cutter or your fingers until it forms coarse, pea-sized clumps.
- Stir in the chopped nuts if using, then scatter the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling at the edges.
- Let rest 10-15 minutes before serving warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
